Scared Stiff

by Tim

White Man speak with forked tongue.  For over a hundred years Oil companys have been putting the screws to the Indians living along the Gulf Coast.  Some of the tribes have been there for thousands of years. Indians many of which moved to the bayous because of being chased out of their lands. Thank you Great White Father.  The Marsh lands of the coast became home. Simply because no one else wanted to live there.  So for over a hundred years Oil company’s have taken advantage of the natives. They’ve been lied to, coerced, and forced of their land again and again. There was an incident about 30 years ago when the oil company wanted to dig through an ancient burial ground. They were stopped when shotguns were brandished.  Still because of trenching and digging a lot of land has been lost to salt water. Taken over because of the trenching. The excavation was supposed to be filled in by the oil company’s but it never happened.

Now comes BP and the gushing oil from the Deep Horizon debacle.  The crude is but a short distance from the Marsh land.  In some cases it’s already there. There way of life is in danger like at no other time.  If they can’t fish they can’t live. it’s that simple.  Now you would think they would be really pissed at BP. They just smile and refer to them as Pointe-Aux-Chenes.  Which means “Not all there.” Another problem is not all the tribes are recognized by the Federal Government. They are all recognized by the State. Not to worry The great Father once again has said to them not to worry. That they will be taken care of. We’ll see. Why is it Indians are always the ones who suffer the most. I think we owe them!
