I've been having trouble with some big redfish. The hole has pilings on three sides and a rocky bank on the fourth. Needless to say, I have to hoss the fish off the pilings, but sometimes I'm not quick enough and the line frays or pops. I've left so

Use any of the super lines in at least 20lb test. You'll need to back the reel with a bit of mono like 20 yds or so to keep the super line from spinning on the reel. Use fluorocarbon for your leader in the 25lb you have been using.

I'm using a palomar knot to tie the hook to the leader. I'm making sure I lube all knots up before tightening them down. I never had any breakoff problems when I was using just mono. Why is this happening?

Cali The braid might be. Most guys I know of usually use 2 to 4lb fluro, or mono on a UL set up, but that's not to say you can't choose something else. IMHO, the braid wouldn't be a benefit, so why bother having to have 2 knots on your line,

Some anglers are reluctant to use braided line because it is so visible. A mono or fluorocarbon leader would be the ideal solution but tying either to braid is tricky because knots tied by the two dissimilar lines are usually very weak.
