G Loomis Pro Green Fishing Rod Review | www.boats.com
by Lenny Rudow
This is a 6′10″ fast-action, medium-weight rod, with cork grips and a graphite reel seat. It doesn’t come cheap at $240 (other Pro Greens range up to 7′10″ and $270, prices are listed out at www.gloomis.com ) but you get what you pay for. And in this case, you pay for fantastic sensitivity and lightening-fast action that’s perfect for long-range hook-sets. Greg found this out, when a 26″ striper grabbed his lure yesterday while we casted chartruese grubs in the shallows of the middle Chesapeake.
The PGR822S-1 we were testing is rated for six to 12-pound test line, and we had it matched up with a Shimano 4000D Baitrunner reel spooled up with 12-pound Power Pro Braid. Other Pro Greens in their line-up can handle eight to 15, and 10 to 17 pound test lines. If you’re looking for a rod that’ll be used for cast-and-retrieve fishing with leadheads and grubs, I doubt you’ll find any better then the Pro Green. We absolutely loved it; after he caught that striper Greg didn’t want to give the rod up – and I don’t blame him one bit!
