Travel Rods VS Traditional Two-Piece?

Hi everyone! Would you suggest a quality travel fishing rod or traditional two-piece as a gift for someone who is new to fishing and doesn't own a rod? Thanks!

I would give them a decent two piece rod, or a one piece. I have a two piece Shimano spinning rod, that is a medium-heavy action, 6-15 line weight.
