How did a lightly experienced guy with a funny name become the first African-American ever elected president? It wasn't from being insane, fanatical, or eager to offend as many people as possible. Yet to contemplate a ban on fishing would require Barack Obama to be at least one of those things.
Why would he want to prohibit fishing, anyway? Obama supported gun control as a state legislator, but he has done nothing to tighten firearms laws since entering the White House. If he is too shrewd and cautious to go after gun owners, why would he go after fishermen, when he has no record of hostility toward them or their pastime? Answer: He wouldn't. Not a chance.
Somehow no one accused George W. Bush of such sinister designs -- even after he created a huge marine national monument in the Pacific where, as The Washington Post reported, "Recreational fishermen will be required to apply for permits to fish."
Jim Donofrio, head of the Recreational Fishing Alliance, warns that Obama may "make it hard, almost impossible, for people to go fishing." Is he that gullible, or does he just think we are? Anglers are known for tall tales. But this one beats them all.
